Variable Speed Pump and Pool Automation Installation
The pool pump is where most of a pool’s energy goes. Replacing an old single-speed pump with a variable speed pump is one of the most effective ways to lower your electric bill, and adding automation puts the whole system on your phone. The Pump Master Pool & Spa installs Pentair pumps and automation for homeowners in Walnut Creek and nearby East Bay communities.
Why variable speed pumps save energy
A single-speed pump runs at full power every minute it is on. A variable speed pump can run slower for daily filtration and speed up only when needed for cleaning, a spa or water features. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory confirms that variable speed pumps are significantly more energy efficient than single-speed pumps, and an energy-efficient pump can use 30–45% less energy than a standard pump.
Pumps we install
We install Pentair variable speed pumps, including the ENERGY STAR certified IntelliFlo VSF and the IntelliFlo3 VSF. The IntelliFlo3 VSF comes in 1.5 HP and 3.0 HP models, runs quietly and connects to the Pentair Pool app or the Pentair Pro app for remote monitoring. We size the pump to your pool and set up the speed schedule after installation.
Pool and spa automation
Automation systems connect your pumps, heating, sanitizing, water features and lighting so you can control them from a mobile device. Remote access and automatic reporting also make it easier to diagnose problems quickly. We can integrate existing equipment such as solar heating and pool cleaners.
Pump and automation questions
How much can a variable speed pump save?
Savings depend on how many hours your pump runs, the speeds you use and your electricity rate. An energy-efficient pump can use 30–45% less energy than a standard pump, and the difference over a season can be large.
Should I repair or replace my old pool pump?
If your pump is single-speed, old or needs a major repair such as a new motor, replacing it with a variable speed pump is often the better long-term value. We compare both options for your equipment.
Can automation work with my existing equipment?
Often, yes. We check which pumps, heaters, lights and sanitizers you have and what can be connected before recommending a system.
