Salt Water Pool Conversion in Walnut Creek
A salt water pool still uses chlorine, but it makes its own. A salt chlorine generator, such as Pentair IntelliChlor, turns ordinary pool salt into chlorine as water passes through it, so you no longer buy and handle chlorine for routine sanitizing. The Pump Master Pool & Spa installs salt systems for pools and spas in Walnut Creek and nearby East Bay communities.
How a salt system works
The generator’s cell is plumbed into your existing filtration system. As water circulates, the cell converts dissolved salt into chlorine, which sanitizes the water and then turns back into salt. The cycle repeats, so the pool gets a steady, automatic supply of chlorine instead of the highs and lows of adding it by hand.
Why homeowners switch
Many swimmers find salt water gentler on skin and eyes, with less of the chlorine smell and fewer red eyes, itchy skin or discolored hair. Steady chlorine output also helps prevent algae, so you can leave for a few days and come back to clear water. Salt systems work on backyard pools and on spas.
Cost over time
A conversion costs more up front than buying chlorine, but it can be more cost-efficient over the years because you buy far fewer sanitizing chemicals. We look at your equipment and pool size and give you a quote.
Salt water pool questions
Is a salt water pool chlorine-free?
No. The generator produces chlorine from salt. The difference is that the chlorine is made steadily in the system instead of being added by hand.
Can my existing pool be converted to salt water?
Most pools with a working pump and filter can be converted. We check your equipment and plumbing first and tell you if anything should be updated before the generator is installed.
Does a salt water pool still need maintenance?
Yes. Salt level, pH and alkalinity still need regular testing and adjustment, and the generator cell needs periodic inspection and cleaning. Weekly full-service maintenance covers this.
